Biography: Born in Brooklyn and educated at Columbia, class of 1854, Congdon was briefly associated with J. Cleveland Cady, c. 1871, and later with John W. Priest, but for the greater part of his long career carried on an independent practice specializing in churches since he was one of the founders of American Ecclesiological Society, it is not surprising that his skillful and accomplished church designs are in the Gothic Revival mode favored by the Ecclesiologists.
