House Talk: Restoration and Easements, June 14, 2008

Co-Sponsored by Historic New England

Saturday, June 14, 2008
9 am - 12 pm
Extown Farm
485 Valley Road
New Canaan, CT

Join us for discussion and walking tour of the meticulous restoration of Extown Farm.  David Harlan and Benjamin Northrup of David D. Harlan Architects, LLC will guide us through the many details, decisions, and discoveries they encountered on this project.  Joseph Cornish of Historic New England will share insights of the preservation easements held at this property.  Historic New England holds the easements on the property.   Besides the fascinating history of the estate (serving for a time as the town's "poor farm", among other things), we will discuss many topics of interest to owners of historic  houses: replacement windows, paint analysis, hiding mechanicals, insulation techniques, waterproofing the foundation, designing an addition and more.
