Face of Connecticut Update
Bill #5873
AN ACT CONCERNING THE FACE OF CONNECTICUT STEERING COMMITTEE AND THE PRESERVATION OF FARMLAND.
To create the Face of Connecticut Account Steering Committee to administer capital funds for various state programs, to authorize additional bonds of the state for such programs, to modify the provisions of the farmland preservation program, and to create new grant programs for municipal and regional planning, small farms and locally significant farms.
Raised House Bill #5873, Face of Connecticut Legislation for the 2008 Term, had its public hearing on March 10th. Thank you to all of those who came to the capitol to show your support.
Now comes the process of trying to convince our state senators and representatives to support our legislation. If you would be interested in sending a letter to your state representative, please follow the steps outlined below.
- If you do not know who your state representative or state senator is, you can find out here: Who's my rep anyway?
- Please check the following website to determine whether your representative has already endorsed or co-sponsored HB #5873: CGA Website.
- If your representative(s) has not already explicitly supported HB #5873, you may, as an individual citizen of your district, send them a letter asking them to support the bill. For guidance, you may want to consult our sample letter.
- We would ask, however, that you not simply fill out the form, but rather that you try to make your letter as personal as possible. Why do you support it? How does the Face of Connecticut speak to issues facing your particular town?
- If your representative has already co-sponsored HB #5873, why not send them a thank you note! (Again, please try to personalize your letter. The samples supplied here contain only suggestions.)
The Face of Connecticut is a diverse landscape of rolling hills, forests, rivers, building and streetscapes that reflect our state’s rich and diverse history. The Face of Connecticut defines the character of our communities and our quality of life.
This face is changing rapidly. Current growth patterns threaten not only the Face of Connecticut, but also our economic well-being.
The Face of Connecticut Campaign is calling for new policies, as well as comprehensive and consistent funding by the state to support action in four areas that will preserve the unique qualities of Connecticut’s diverse landscape for generations to come.
