Sample Bequest Language

Ready to consider a bequest?
Below is some sample language for general and specific bequests for your review.

General Bequest

A general bequest specifies a dollar amount or percentage of one’s residuary estate to be used for the general purposes of the Trust. To include such a provision in your will, we suggest the following:

“I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc., __ dollars ($__), or __ percent (__%) of my residuary estate, whichever is less, to be used for the benefit of the Connecticut Trust as the Trustees thereof may direct.”

Contingent Bequest

A contingent bequest takes effect only if the primary intention cannot be met. For exam

“If (primary beneficiary) does not survive me, then I give to the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc., all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used as the Trustees may determine.”
