Our projects range from vernacular buildings such as mills, barns and historic houses, to institutional and cultural buildings such as churches, theaters, and museums. We are experienced with the application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties as well as the requirements of the Building Code. GNCB meets the Professional Qualifications Standards for Engineering as outlined in the Secretary of the Interior’s 36 CFR Part 61.

Representative Projects on the National Register of Historic Places: 

Ponemah Mills Complex, Taftville, CT – Stabilization, restoration, and adaptive reuse of a 275,000 SF riverside mill complex (c. 1866) to affordable- and market-rate housing and retail space.

The Barnum Museum, Bridgeport, CT – Structural component of Conservation Assessment Program Survey (CAP) and Report, emergency shoring efforts, and phased stabilization HRF-funded efforts for the wood-framed attic and roof structure which is comprised of multiple trusses and domes.

Old Newgate Prison, East Granby, CT – Existing conditions assessment and report of 1700’s National Historic Landmark guardhouse, tobacco barn, stone walls, ruins, and copper mine. Ruins concept design to stabilize collapsing stone walls while adding skeletal framework for visitation level experience. Property is owned and managed by the Connecticut State Historic Commission. 

The Hurd House – Condition assessment & report, Contract Documents, Bidding and Construction Administration for the c. 1680 timber-framed House, which is the oldest house in Litchfield County. Project included replacement of two deteriorated end girts with antique timbers.

Center Church, First Church of Christ, Hartford, CT – Existing conditions survey and report, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration of sanctuary historic plaster ceiling, c. 1807. 

Avery Point Lighthouse, Groton, CT – Restoration of masonry façade and wood lantern room of historic lighthouse, c. 1942.
